WoW Upgrades - The Item Upgrader

Upgrades give a guaranteed boost to certain stats. Each upgrade increases the item level upgrade (stay with me) level by +3. A random substat is also increased with each upgrade.

The upgraded gear is usually more valuable, unless the item has a low requirement by nature (like FB sorc shields) or has a high variance in stats (like the eth Titan weapons). Upgrades are not as important for those with higher variance because of the requirement to roll an exact version.

Recycle Points

The item upgrader allows players to upgrade gear to a higher level by supplying the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades can be applied on any kind of weapon or armor. However, the item upgrades used to upgrade will be consumed for the duration of time and will not be able to be used again. Upgrades can be applied to the enchantments.

You can upgrade your equipment at any time by visiting the upgrader in any major city. To ensure that your equipment is up-to-date, it is recommended that you visit the upgrader every few weeks.

Upgrades will cost more, based on the level of the item however they'll always be less expensive than purchasing new gear. For instance upgrading a Benthic chest piece to ilvl 385 will cost 20 recycle points, while buying a similar item from another player will costs 105.

Valorstones

Upgrades are functional items which can be used to improve the quality of weapons and tools, armor and other items. They are purchased by players through item upgrader NPCs in exchange for different currencies, and can be found in random treasure lists. Once an upgrade has been purchased it can be applied to any weapon, tool, or armor with a button, which will display a preview of the item when it is upgraded if the player has sufficient materials.

Upgrade costs vary depending on the slot for the item and the current level of the item. For instance, weapons will cost more than gloves, bracers, or bracers. Each step costs 15 Flightstones plus a certain number of crests. Certain upgrades provide a discount on the Flightstones. Once an item is upgraded to a certain degree and is degraded, it can be sold and returned to the upgrader for a lesser amount of both currencies.

A lot of locations offer upgraders for items in addition to the main island and some outposts. The NPCs offer an upgrade items coupon and the chance to obtain an entirely new recipe. The upgrade discount increases when more items are upgraded. It can be increased if players complete certain achievements or complete quests.

When a piece of equipment reaches the highest level of upgrade for any rank (Explorer or Adventurer) it will no longer require Flightstones. This change is designed to allow players to get their equipment to the highest ilvl possible on all their characters instead of relying on seasonal loot.

It's also crucial to choose crests with care, since they are only used for one purpose. For instance it's best to make use of all your Whelpling-rank crests with the best gear you have available, and then save Drake and Wyrm crests for the next round of upgrades you're planning on making. This is particularly true for items like rings and trinkets that take up multiple slots on the character that will be able to take advantage of the account-wide discount when all of the slots are filled with high-quality gear.
